Christine Buckley joined the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center’s (SERC) Development staff in 2015 as an Advancement Associate.  She manages corporate and community relations, donor stewardship events, and helps to secure private donations to SERC from individuals and corporations.  In 2017, she also became a member of the Smithsonian Conservation Commons, as part of the Core Plus Team.

  • Christine Buckley joined the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center’s (SERC) Development staff in 2015.  She manages corporate and community relations, donor stewardship events, and helps to secure private donations to SERC from individuals and corporations.  In 2017, she also became a member of the Smithsonian Conservation Commons, as part of the Core Plus Team. 

    As a Core Plus team member for the Conservation Commons, Christine serves as both a liaison for the SERC Director and as a Community Outreach Manager.  She works with the Commons core staff members and local area stakeholders to broaden the scope and messaging for both SERC’s programs and the Conservation Commons Action Areas.  She is also a member of the Working Land and Seascapes support team, a leading Action Area of the Conservation Commons. 

    Christine joined the Smithsonian to help advance the Institution’s mission by utilizing her communication skills and long-standing relationships in the community.  A 20-plus year resident of the Annapolis area, she is engaged in event planning and fundraising for SERC, and wants to help SERC and the broader Smithsonian to achieve its mission for the increase and diffusion of knowledge. 

    Prior career experience includes:  Senior Executive Assistant to Maryland State Treasurer Nancy Kopp for 6 years; Senior Executive Assistant to James A. Johnson for 10 years, while he was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Fannie Mae, The John F. Kennedy Center, and the Brookings Institution, as well as serving on the Boards of Goldman Sachs, Target Corporation, Temple Inland, and UnitedHealth Group.  Christine has planned events and conferences for Fannie Mae, the Department of HUD, and as a Senior Conference Manager for Aspen Systems Corporation, a government contractor.  

    Christine resides in Edgewater, MD with her husband and two daughters.
