Dr. Madsen's areas of expertise include: observational solar astronomy, ultraviolet and near-infrared spectroscopy of the Sun, small-scale energetic phenomena of the solar chromosphere and transition region, physics of partially ionized plasmas, airborne solar eclipse observations, and efficiency modeling of diffraction gratings.
