Smithsonian Libraries and Archives staffAlexandra has a wide variety of expertise and research interests related to the material culture and the history of books. She has lectured and published on the history of bookbinding and book conservation, and continues her research into the history of the English bookbinder Douglas Cockerell and Son. She has also lectured and published about the marginalia in the Cullman's 1491 copy of Pliny's Historia Naturalis. Other research interests include the marginal decoration of later medieval manuscripts, the use of social media to expand the reach of special collections libraries, and the intersection of the manuscript and print traditions.
