Professional Biography

  • Scott Paine has contributed to the original development and ongoing upgrades of the Submillimeter Array radio interferometer on Maunakea, Hawaii; has developed and fielded multiple instruments for ground-based millimeter-wave through far-infrared spectral radiometry of the Earth’s atmosphere; and is currently a member of the collaboration and project teams for CMB-S4, the next-generation cosmic microwave background experiment. Paine’s research and public policy interests include advancing instrumentation and techniques for radio astronomy, experimental cosmology, and geodesy; radiative transfer, spectroscopy, and radio propagation in the Earth’s atmosphere; and protection of scientific use of the radio spectrum for astronomy and Earth remote sensing.
