Public Biography

  • Emily D. Shapiro is managing editor of the Archives of American Art Journal, the longest-running scholarly periodical devoted to the history of art in the United States. She also serves as the Archives of American Art's representative on the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program's History of Art (HART) committee. A specialist in pre-1945 American art and material culture, Shapiro has published her research on genre painting, landscape, still life, and history painting in exhibition catalogues, collection catalogues, and scholarly journals. Shapiro holds a Ph.D. in art history with a concentration in art of the United States from Stanford University.
