Professional Biography
- Megan Smith specializes in connecting visitors to history through exhibits, programs, and digital products. Megan has developed some of the most innovative spaces in the museum, including Unity Square and Wegmans Wonderplace, the first preschool exhibition on the National Mall. Megan is the project director for What It Means to Be American, a national multi-platform conversation about American history and identity, and the co-founder of the National Youth Summit. Since joining the museum in 2001, Megan has helped develop many of the Museum’s flagship exhibitions, including American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith, Many Voices, One Nation, The Star-Spangled Banner, First Ladies at the Smithsonian, and the Albert Small Documents Gallery. She is a 2011 Graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute’s Museum Leaders: The Next Generation Program, and was selected to join the first cohort of the Smithsonian's Emerging Leaders Development Program in 2014.
