Nicole E. Smith-Guzmán, PhD is a bioarchaeologist specializing in paleopathology, and currently holds positions as Archaeology Curator at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and National Researcher I at the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT)'s National Research System in Panama. Her research has focused on describing the lived experiences of prehispanic Panamanian populations through a biocultural lens, and on developing methods to identify evidence of the impacts of tropical infectious diseases like malaria on ancient human populations.
