Overview

Abstract

  • Descriptions are provided for the morphology of the shell, operculum, radula, anatomy, egg capsules and juveniles of Tudicla spirillus (Linnaeus, 1767), the type species of the type genus of Tudiclidae. On the basis of these data, the family Tudiclidae is transferred from the Turbinelloidea to the superfamily Buccinoidea. Whether it maintains the rank of family or becomes subordinated among the subfamilies of Buccinidae will be determined by a thorough revision of the Buccinoidea and its families. Such a revision will likely expand Tudiclidae to include additional living genera, among them Afer, Euthria, and Euthriostoma.
